I thought I'd try to add jimping to a blade or two and see how that works out. The concept of jimping has grown on me lately.

What checkering files are you guys using now? Can you point me in the direction of brand, name, model etc? And do you have any pics of results from differnt lines per inch? How many lines per inch do you prefer?

Grobet swiss pattern checkering file. Got mine on Amazon. Available in 20, 40, and 50 LPI. Only the 20 is useful for jimping.
It is essential to setup very squarely in all directions that one could wiggle. I use a file guide.

I use 30 LPI grobets from Brownells. Crappy pic to follow.

I've got a Grobet 20 LPI that someone gave me about 15 years ago and a Grobet 30 LPI that I recently got off eBay. I'm starting to prefer the 30 , especially for coining. I like to do one band of jimping then skip about a quarter inch and do another band. I settled on two bands of jimping with one space in the middle rather than three bands of jimping with two spaces because it was too easy to make the two spaces not match!1677027273641.jpg

I actually use my electro etcher to etch the jimping in :) I get the blade profile finalized, rough ground, do the jimping and then do the remainder of the grinding/cleaning up the sides to remove any over etching ugliness.
