Pappy needs our help.
He's always getting bunged up, damn hard too, but now it's big. He has a mass in one of his lungs. It is serious. And no one knows yet how far or short or sideways along. So I'm going to pray for him as I've prayed for many of you hurting now.
The wooden cross sitting at my table is from Pappy. The small package arrived soon after I was beaten, but stayed past and recently called for my wife, who had a tumor I did not disclose to you here. But Pappy knew. He and his prayed for my family. Oh, I would have rushed for help from you, every Soul here, but my wife is a private person.
Several weeks ago we recieved the news the tumor disapeared. And I never will understand how and why healing is done and for whom when, the unreconciled pain, but I know prayer works. It works whether it's in smoke, on your knees, or facing East. So put this Source together, this Great Heart; for Pappy and you and me and all of us here in this place at this time when there is much doubt and pain. I'm going to forget about the trifling matters. We have a good thing here; let us use it together and affirm who the hell we are.
