I have a friend who is planning on going to England this summer for his externship to be a chef, and I told him I'd check up on the knives part. He's a chef so he's planning on bringing his entire set of kitchen knives with him, is there anything he needs to know knife law wise?

Why don't you email the British consulate? I suspect you'll get more trustworthy info there, and you'll have the name of an official to back up your friend's actions if some customs person tries to hassle your friend.

A chef is alowed to carry his knive to & from work in England. As long as he can proove hes a chef. Carry in a locked case is best...

Couple of tips.

If he's a chef and he's carrying chef's knives (obviously hidding in a bag or something, not in his pocket or dangling from a belt) he will be ok as he has "good reason" to carry them. If he's taking them half-way round the world, the knies are clearly precious to him and he'll have them properly wrapped and safe so again that will help him if he's stopped.

If he uses a flick-knife for filleting chicken (god knows why he would) he'll get prosecuted as flick-knives are banned.

If they are prescious, he'll still need to put them in the aircraft hold of course and packing them well inside his case before he gets to the airport would be sensible. Airport security are probably less accommodating than a British Bobby.

Does your friend need to transport his knives to and from his place of work/home once he is in the UK?
