Bringing knives through customs

I am taking a trip to Bali in 10 days and would like to pick up some simple machetes and maybe a smaller knife to bring back with me.

Are there any regulations I should be aware of before I try to bring knives back with me? Has anyone brought knives back from Indonesia before?

I brought two Chinese folders back from Israel before, no questions asked. However, I dont know about something large like a machete. Good Luck
 
Hi mate,
I've brought Kris back with me from Bali, no problems outgoing, it's where you're arriving that could be the issue.
 
I assume you mean bringing knives from Indonesia into the US. I have brought knives from Indonesia into Australia without problems from Customs but some have attracted the attention of the Quarantine service, particularly those with animal horn grips. They all got in eventually but a couple had to be treated to eliminate the possiblity of them containing some agricultural threat.
