This is my first post in G&G, so I don't know if this has been discussed before. I got a Brinkmann LED flashlight for my birthday, and it is really neat. Has the button on the butt, so it's designed to be held in a sort of "reverse grip". Very bright, casts a great beam for an LED. Does anyone else have this light? I'd never heard of or seen it before, is why I ask.

funny you posted this...i was about to ask the same thing, i also picked one up a couple of days ago, figured it may be a good, get to my tree stand hunting light, plenty bright enough, lightweight for its size,i like it!

I was thinking about buying one for my mom. She told me the other day she uses the Photon II I sent her when she goes out into the "barn" at night to give her cats water. (yes, she lives a sad life)

Any other recommendations on a GOOD flashlight for her? Something fairly small, and it's probably better if it uses "normal" batteries. I was also toying with sending her an Innova X5 and a SureFire "hurricane" brick of batteries. Are there better choices?

The Brinkman is at the bottom of my list as far as lights go. It is ok, but it has a very tight beam (which might be good for some people). I would recommend the Princeton Tec Attitude; it uses 4 AAA cells, completely waterproof and quite durable. You might also look at the Arc AAA, using a single AAA battery; it is about the same brightness as a Photon, but stays bright instead of slowly dimming as you use the light. Or maybe a good old Lightwave 2000, running on 3 AA cells. In any case I have a bunch of different lights reviewed on my site that might help you pick some.

I recently bought a ARC AAA from BladeArt. Must have gotten a bad one, because I think it sucks -- similar in brightness to the Photon II, but I put a BRAND NEW Energizer Titanium in it, and after about 5 minutes (total) usage, it's already cycling between "normal" and "moon" or whatever the really-low brightness is called. POS.

I sent my dad a yellow Tec Impact. I haven't actually seen it myself, but my mom said she sometimes borrows it and likes it. What's the difference between the Attitude & Impact again?

I thought Lightwave went out of business?

You can get more info on the Brinkman at www.candlepowerforums.com.

Brock, I gave the Attitude as a gift after trying it out at REI. I compared it to a Petzl Zipka and my Arc-AAA. It seemed to be around the same brightness (in the lit strore) as the Zipka. I was satisfied enough to give it as a gift. I probably won't buy one for myself, but if I receive it as a gift, I won't complain.

I still think that the Lightwave 2000 is a pretty good light. It has a decent spot, is spashproof, and has good battery life. I haven't lubed the o-ring, so it requires 2 hands to operate. It's in the nightstand drawer now since I use the Zipka or Tikka. I also have a Trek-3 (or Pilot 3) which really doesn't have a spot. I've found that despite the waterproofness, I don't really like the light. If it were hanging in a tent, it might be more appreciated.

Michael_Aos, try contacting ARC about your Arc-AAA. I think that they will replace it without any hassles. I have the Arc-AAA LE and have had no problems with it. As far as I know, most users on candlepowerforums.com have not had any issues with the ARC-AAA that weren't resolved. The link can be found at the CPF website.
