British Jungle survival knife?

Hello Rayfield,

Do you mean the Martindale machete called "Jungle knife #4" with it?

Go see: http://www.ralphmartindale.co.uk/ralphmartindale/europe1.html

It's the second picture (the humpback whale

If so drop me an e-mail.

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

There is a truly stout knife issued to British troops, and a civilian counterpart, apparently carried by British airliners for emergency/survival use. Know I saw them in either a TK or Knives Illustrated issue maybe a year ago.

If that is the knife of which you speak, I've read that the British soldiers have uniformly detested the knife for the 40 years or so of its existence.

From what I've heard, the Martindale machetes are considered by many to be the MBs of the machete world. TK, I believe, did a review of a couple a few issues ago. Believe there is a US distributor, located in Maine.

The old issue Jungle Knife was called a Tree Beater, and was good for nothing, accordingto the reports I heard. The new knife is that shorter machete with the bug head on the knife. Jeff Randall did the article on those machetes (not including the original tree beater) as far as I remember, and I think he liked it.

"Come What May..."

I believe that the Brits have been using a Martindale GOLOK since before the Falklands. (They were certainly issued DURING the Falklands and some examples show up on ebay.) If you want to buy one go to www.jungleknife.com they are about the only martindale importer in the states and are actually a company that sells equipment to survey crews . . . hope that helps!
