British Knife ban...

Are they actually banning them? Is there any info from major news sources?

To do so, their citizens would have to be deeply brainwashed.

(of course they already gave up guns, so it wouldnt surprise me.)

They're pretty far gone on knives already. Spyderco designed the Spyderco UK Penknife just for the UK market, but I'm sure that's covered elsewhere. No blade locks allowed I seem to recall.

this would be a great topic for the general forum. As it affects everyone. How will they eat their meat. You can't have any pudding until you eat your meat.

Thanks for the link. Am headed to Ireland, Wales, and England right in the middle of this "amnesty."

I was going to carry my Spyderco UK Penknife.

Now it looks like I might just be packing a SAK. Certainly easier to replace.

What a bunch of buffoons (the lawmakers and those that suport these inane laws). I'd run screaming if I lived in the UK.

While I find this interesting and very disturbing, it belongs elsewhere.

Moving,.....

Actually reading the BBC announcements, this is more like those pathetic gun buy-backs that we get here in the US. There will be bins for people to anonymously drop off their "weapons" without fear of prosecution. I expect it to have the same (non) impact that the buy-backs do.

I love the idiot from Scotland who opines "There is no reason for people to have swords in their homes." Wot? Has he never heard of Claymores?

They may have a rebellion (again). Meat and pudding are for Scotsmen. The Brits eat mushy peas and pot roast. No knife required.

They may get away with a ban with the Brits but surely the Scots won't stand for it. It's a cultural identity thing. They have to carry a blade in their sock (never could spell it) when they wear a kilt.:grumpy: :barf:

:jerkit:
What do you want to bet the invasive government has cameras trained on every knife bin. That place is #&$@ed. I feel sorry for their non-idiotic citizens.

Just ludicrous, as if this stops anything...if someone has intent to hurt somebody they will still do that. The "bad guys" will always get there guns/knives/clubs/fists/bricks whatever to start ****. :barf:

When they get invaded again they'll be begging for us to send guns and knives over so they can try to defend themselves like WWII. What a moronic government. I wonder what most people there actually think? Lend lease knife program anyone?

I wonder if you could buy one of the bins when (if) it was full? Maybe you could buy it cheap and it would be like one of those mystery grab bags.

Tlmzdac, the reason you can't spell it is, they can't either. I have seen:
sgian dubh
sgian dub
sgian dhu
skene du
I am going to be in Scotland this summer, and I will feel much safer knowing the street thugs all turned in their knives. Hey, it worked here in Birmingham, Alabama. Some church sponsored a gun buyback, the gangstas sold them all their broken stuff, so they could take the money and buy newer cheapos that hadn't quit yet.

Britan is turning into the movie "1984" I'm wondering how long before royal camera's are mandated in each and every home! :grumpy:

I think you'll find Britain was never invaded during WWII.

I agree though, this is a very silly policy. An 'amnesty' implies handing something in which is illegally held without fear of prosecution. Owning knives is not illegal in the UK, only carrying in a public place without good reason - so how can there be an amnesty? It's all just knee jerk politics and reactionary nonsence.

Oh, and by the way I've always spelt it sgian dubh !

I think the last time britian was invaded was 1066. It does sound very 1984ish to me though.

How's the U.K. doing, financially?

I'm asking because I'll bet that the U.K. will start selling the confiscated knives on eBay, like the T.S.A. is doing, in the U.S., with the pocket knives that they grab away from airline passengers. It's all profit because it's not like they're going to pay you for your knives, that they are basically legally stealing, by making them illegal!

 Soon the Brits will banish paper, as everyone knows how painful paper cuts can be!
