At some point down the road I am looking to obtain one of these swords. Can anyone point me to a good resource that will give approximate values vs. condition, what to look for, what to avoid, etc etc etc...

yeah, I know...'what's it worth?' is the most annoying common unanswerable question in any antiques/collectibles field...but I gotta ask it anyway.

The prices I have seen (in my admittedly limited thus far research) seem to hover around $300-400 for overall good condition swords with clean blades. Sound right?

I've tried finding one of these without much luck, but I did find one among a bunch of other antique militaria. It had a Wilkinson blade and was 1908 model, dated 1913. And it appeared to be in very good condition, and was selling for $600+

Your best bet would be to check out the antique and military sword forum at SFI http://www.swordforum.com

There's folks there who know a lot more about these types of swords than I do.

Don´t know much either, but Wilkinson is still producing the 1908 pattern sabre as far as I know. They claim to produce their swords to original specs, I don´t know if that´s true or if they only are props. http://www.wilkinson-swords.co.uk/

Thanks for the replies.

Anyone know for certain if wilkinson's current Pattern 1908 is wallhanger material or the real deal? I DO want to get a true WWI blade, but it might be nice to get a modern one to...ahem...play with. *SCHNICK!*

Also, anyone know whats up with Wilkinson's website? When I surf there I can get the front page but it looks like one of the frames is screwed up, and I can't get any further into their site.

Thanks again, Mike
