I've been wanting to try a Bark River for a while, so I bid on a Huntsman on Ebay a couple of days ago. It's unused, and I got a good deal. It has a green micarta handle with pins larger than I've seen on other Huntsmans, and the blade is marked "Prototype". I bought it to use, but I'm now wondering if it has a collector appeal because of the prototype marking. Is the marking rare? Should I go ahead and use this knife, or should I sell it to someone who'll keep it as a safe queen and buy another as a user?

I don't think it is rare--there are lots of BRKT prototypes out there. Use it. If you decide you want to collect it, send it back and they will put all the markings back on it for you! :)

Congrats--Huntsmans are excellent knives.

One of the great things about BRKT knives is the customer service and the warrantee. Use the heck out of it - like okbohn said, BRKT knives are made to be used!

Then when you want to sell it, send it back to Bark River, and they will make it all spiffy again, just for the cost of mailing!

A user and a safe queen in one knife - how good can it get???

I don't think it's a collector, there are lots of prototypes out there like Okbohn said....I have two....they're users. Use it. :D

That's what I figured, but I didn't want to post pictures of me using it, and have Mike show up at my door with a Bravo-1 and a grudge.:D

Anyway, here's a couple of pics along with a couple of this week's other auction war victories.
