Bark River Knife & Tool Boone II
Well, this is a stunning and classic hunter - nice 5" blade (52100) with a satin finish, beautiful Amboyna burl handle (both sides, BTW), and perfect balance. Many may think it too classic in design, with the double guard, pommel, and blood groove, but for those of us who grew up with this style, it's like going back to that first hunting trip. The blade shape with a bit of belly makes it a good overall hunter and skinner. Of course, it arrived razor-sharp out of the box.
What I notice immediately is the balance and lightness of this knife in the hand. It balances perfectly right behind the finger guard and does not overwhemlm one with extra heft. This is not only great looking, it's made to be carried and used - often.
There are a wide range of prices out there on this knife and it's single-guard cousin, but even with this handle it's not too expensive to use and to replace, even if you really muck it up (beyond the life-time warranty, 'course). It, perhaps, looks too expensive to use, but it's not. That's a great thing. Feeling good about using a new knife is just as important as any other quality I can think of.
This is my first Bark River, but it won't be my last.
Better photo (stock quality?) in natural light
Sorry for the flash-photography - I like to use natural light - but we in Hotlanta have had that pissy weather from the gulf over us for the past two days. Burl is always a bit more translucent in natural light and you don't get those weird reflections off the metal. Notice the great "eyes" in the burl.
