so im itching to get a BR bravo necker...

for those that have experience with it, would you suggest paying the extra $25 for the 3v steel?
its a 2.5inch blade, and i dont know if i "need" the 3v over the stainless steel verison.
stainless is easier to maintain, but if i end up really loving the bravo necker, i would want the superior steel later down the line.

also, are you able to get a 4 finger grip on the handle?
i had an izula, and found the handle to be too short. and i have medium sized hands. theres always the izula2, but im looking for a shorter pocket fixed blade.
and i also prefer the looks of the bravo necker over the izula2, especially the satin 3v model. i also love convex grinds.

what im really looking for is a 2-2.5 inch blade fixed blade, with a full sized handle for a more secure grip.
thanks in advance!

I only get a 3 finger grip without my lanyard. The 12C27 is durable and hold an edge well through the light use mine has seen. I'm itching to get the Necker 2 in 3v, and I probably will, after I get my grubby little mitts on a Golok in A2.

I have extra-large hands and I only get 3.5 fingers on the Bravo Necker, though mine is wrapped in paracord, not scaled.

I found the edge of the stainless model to be too delicate. The 3v model is better for the grind.

I like mine a lot. Cary it every day.

thanks for the replies!
i remember reading the handle is about 3.5 inches. i can tightly wrap 4 fingers around a 4inch handle with some room to spare. so 3.5in might just be good enough.
after doing more research on 3v steel, it seems worth the extra cost for the toughness alone.

now the hard part, which colors do i want?? :D

With the scales I can get a four finger grip on it. I guess my hands are medium-ish. I got the black stainless version. I was thinking about the natural canvas or coyote brown micarta handles, but ended up getting the maroon ones. They're a fair bit darker than they appear in the promo shots. Also, prepare to have your blade scratched from day one by the sheath.

Here's a picture that I posted earlier in the "your newest knives" thread:

thanks for the pic and the heads up on the maroon scales being darker. i was thinking of getting maroon scales too. but youve changed my mind. after using it, itll probably get even darker?

yea, i havent heard great things about the sheath, i knid of want a more tradition BRKT leather sheath.

I haven't used it that much yet, but I think they get a bit darker with use. Not sure though. I was a little bummed at first because I wanted a colour that had more contrast against the black, but in the end I'm happy with it.

I like mine well enough but for more than a light chore or working with softer wood the handle shows its limitations. It's just a tiny bit too short and narrow for me. I like the 12C27 steel well enough as it holds an edge just fine and sharpens up easily.

Instead of using 3V, I wonder if a less tough steel with a bit better edge retention and in stainless would be a better idea (although I really like the edge retention I get with my other 3V knives). CTS-XHP, CPM154 or M390 even would be good ideas in my book.

I like mine. It is a satin 3V with scales. I have S to M size hands and able to grip it with 4 fingers. When I got it I sold my Izula 2. It has the same blade length/shape/width as izula but it is much lighter and shorter and can throw sparks and can be carried on neck, and is more packet or survival kit friendly.

I like the Bravo Necker and have it in the 12C27 and the 3V and although I prefer the 3V both are fine for what I use them for. For me it's a 3 finger grip with a 4th looped in a short lanyard and I prefer it to the Izula. The Izula II, particularly with the knife connection scales, provides a tight but decent 4 finger grip. If forced to choose between a stock Izula II and the Bravo Necker I would go with the Bravo Necker as I don't care for the stock Izula scales or coated blades.

I think you will find that you will get a superior handle (and blade) on a small knife going the custom route. I've got small fixed blades from Big Chris, Alan Davis, Matt Tackett, KFU, Murray Carter and Fiddleback that are far better designed handles than any production knive I've had. That being said here is a size comparison shot of the Bravo Necker, Izula, Izula II and Blackjack 155 that might be helpful in your decision making.

The Fallkniven WM1 has a pretty decent and grippy handle in a production pocket sized fixed blade. Here is one next to a Bravo Necker.
