BRKT Fox River 2 LT, Bravo 1.25 LT, or Bravo 1 LT

ONE of these will be my first bark river. Main purpose is a camp knife for food prep, feather sticka, light baton work (3-3.5 in diameter wood, no logs), and butchering (portioning, slicing, and trimming meat not skinning or field dressing, I have dedicated knives for that.) I've been told that all three will do all these things but my concerns for each are as follows:

Bravo 1 LT: only 4 inch blade, is that enough? I always thought of a 3-4 inch blade as being more of a companion knife then a camp knife. Nothing wrong with that, just my opinion.

Fox River 2 LT: How does the handle compare to the Bravo family?? I have 9 cm hands, so medium-large. Anyone have experience working with wood with one of these??

Bravo 1.25 LT: My only hesitation here is price point. SPECIFICALLY, this model is in 3V but for less money I can have a regular 1.25 in A2. The concern there being the blade thickness. I can't see 1/4 inch thick blades as being half decent slicers.

Thoughts and advice would be awesome. I'll end up buying more Barkies if I like the first one, but I want to make sure I get a good knife right off the bat.

P.S. What's all this micro bevel business? I don't have money to invest in water stones but I do have a mouse pad and sand paper. Is that enough combined with a strop??

I have the Bravo 1.25 and love it, for me this is definitely the right size Bravo. I also like the balance in hand better than on the B1 (the balance point is right on the index finger on mine, which has a micarta handle).

But I have the regular version not the LT, the latter was not yet available in the B1.25 when I got it...

In any case, all three are nice knives! Make sure to post pics once you've got it!

Any trouble with it slicing or feathersticking??? Also how does it feel in hand?? Like I said I have medium to large hands, don't wanna get something too big.

Good slicer? And is it regular B1 or LT??

It slices pretty good but it's a regular b1 so the LT will slice better but it is still .156" thick opposed to the regular at .215" so I wouldn't have any problems with with strength because that is still thicker than some companies do any of their fixed blades. Also the brk is convex ground to add strength plus 3v is probably the most indestructible out there

I don't have a Fox River 2-LT...but do I have a Fox River LT (as well as the Bravo 1-LT and 1.25-LT)
Excuse the poor lighting, it was either darker shade or direct sun at this time of day.

As you can see, the handles of the Bravo 1-LT and 1.25-LT are identical; so the choice there is blade length. I find them, for the most part, to be interchangeable; except in rare circumstances where I need that little bit of extra length. I prefer the handle of the Fox River LT by a small margin; but it is a slightly smaller knife (supposedly the same blade length as the 1-LT, according to the specs; but mine is definitely smaller).
Will the Fox River 2 meet your needs better than any of the above - I cannot say. The blade may be marginally longer than the 1.25-LT...and which handle fits you better depends on your particular hand and preference.

*give me a minute, and I'll do a quick measure of blade lengths

The Fox River LT is just a hair over 4" (plenty of space before the 1/16" line)
Bravo 1-LT is 4.25" right on the mark, as advertised.
Bravo 1.25-LT is just under 5" - a hair past the 4 15/16 mark
For giggles, I checked my other 1-LT, and that is also spot on at 4.25"
(I took that one in trade, thinking it was going to a friend; but it's still sitting here, if you decide to go that route)

hh,
Thanks for that picture! How does your Fox do with light batonning, feather sticks, etc? My main concern With the fox is if it will be too small for my hand, but then again the Fox 2 handle is supposed to be a little bigger. I have medium large hands, so it's a gamble in my mind.

One more question lol, how often do you really need that extra inch from the 1.25?

I've never used the Fox River for batoning. As far as handle size, I wear XL gloves; and find the Fox River to be nearly perfect info hand.

In my case, as shown above, it's only 3/4 inch, lol...and, as you could probably guess from my earlier post, I really don't NEED it; but, sometimes, having that little bit extra just makes things easier (gives a little more confidence). If I'm likely to want a larger knife, I bring one.

Thanks for the Info HH! After reading your posts, I'm thinking a B1 or B 1.25 LT is gonna be my best bet. I love the shape of the Fox 2, but I'm concerned that the shape might just not be the best everything I need.

Well, it will slice, but it is sure no slicer at this blade thickness. The LT will be better, but is still fairly stout. For me the B1.25 is my tough use fixed though, not the dedicated slicer in the arsenal. I usually also carry a folder which takes care of the food prep (like an Opinel).

The grip is just fantastic - it is perfect in hand and doesn't give me hot spots even after prolonged use.

Good luck with your decision!
