Does anyone know if the knives made at their 07 or 08 Grind In for collectors club members are heat treated or not? I know the knife looks like it came from a Bravo 1 blank and I just didn't know if it is a heat treated suitable for use or not.
Any answers would be appretiated.

Yes, of course, all the grind-in knives are fully functional users.

Bark River heat treats the blanks before grinding, just like on their regular production knives.

So how's that work? The blank is heat treated, then ground?

Aren't there issues with temper due to the heat of the grinding process?

It goes something like this. The raw steel sheets go to the water jet co where they cut out the blanks, then shipped directly to the heat treater, then to a surface grinder to take the heat slag off and make them straight and flat with surface grinding. Just a lot of careful grinding I guess. I have never had any issues with their steel to date:)

The final grinding of all knife blades happens after HT.

Bark River is rare in that they do all the grinding after HT.

But care must be taken not to overheat the tempered steel.

Most of us use a bucket of water to cool the blade while grinding.
