I recently got a Canadian Special along with the strop and black/green compound. Upon inspecting my NIB CS i found that about a quarter inch of the tip is not sharpened hardly. its convexed but is very rounded off! my question is about the compounds. i know the black is the coarser compound so could this be used to sharped the tip of my knife. I cant post pics or i would. its not completely blunt but not sharp at all if that makes sense. so will this compound work or will i need to bring out the sandpaper. i am hoping not because this is my first convexed knife and i would feel more comfortable just using the strop, although i guess i need to learn sometime huh! thanks in advance!

I know what you mean.
Sounds like you need sandpaper.
The points of a strop is finish of sharpening and squeeze out those hair whittling edges.
A strop will not sharpen, but will polish. Start of with sandpaper and a mouse pad try to get a shaving tip atleast! Then move onto the strop to refine the edge even more.

just put the sandpaper on the strop, start with 600 then 1000,1500,2000 then back to the strop. Its all the same motion so if you can strop you can sharpen.

ive got some 400 grit ive been practicing on. will that work good or should i use a higher/lower grit?
