BRKT Teddy Hunter......lately I've been taking a close look at this knife. I did a search but not much talk on the forums. Anyone have one..handle one....like it.....dislike it ? From the photos it appears the guard is a bit long...does it interfere with any cutting ? How does the knife handle....is it "quick" or clumsy ? I imagine the convex edge cuts pretty good.

I would use the knife for woodsman's chores.....but mostly likely not for dressing game.

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

Gramps,

I'm a BK fan also. I like the looks of the Teddy but I just purchased a BK Sandstorm II so I'll have to wait a little while before I buy anything else.

I have several fixed blades with 5" handles and I don't think it's too long. You want a good grip on a large knife.

To me, the convex grind is great for cleaning game. After some practice, I'm able to keep it hair shaving sharp. Take some 400 and 800 black sand paper with you in the field, lay it on your tightened thigh (or something flat), and re-sharpening is fast and easy.

Concerning the guard, I don't think it would be a problem. I say that because the Teddy is a copy of an old hunting knife so the design has been around for a long time.

All that being said, there are many other knives I would rather have for field dressing game. However, for general camp and field chores, I'm sure it would serve you well.

Regards

I have one--it is a nice feeling knife. I don't feel like the guard gets in the way in general camp chores. I like a guardless knife for dressing game, so I have never used it for that task

I have one. I feel that the handle is a half inch too long, but overall it's still a great knife. Takes a screaming sharp edge too.

Yes, compared to all the other Barkies, the handle is longer than the width of my hand-grip by about 1/2 to 1 inch. Plus the fact that I don't have big hands. The other Barkies fit my hand width perfectly.

My Teddy is very nice, the handle is natural maple burl, on the whole my knife is a real beauty. My compliments to Mike Steward each time I look at my Barkies.
