I'm thinking of ordering a mini-northstar made by Bark river knife and tool. I have heard conflicting stories about this company and was wondering what you guys think of this company and their knives.

Also, if you have any suggestions on a knife that has the general characteristics of the mini-northstar from another company, they will be greatly appreciated.

Bark River is a great company to buy from. Mike stands behind his products . . . period.

If you want a pure custom made knife, there are plenty of folks out there that could oblige you.

As far as your question goes, there are too many variables for a simple answer.

Not too many. Just looking for a 7-8 inch fixed with a small profile for lower back edc. I would like for it to have a nice wood handle(not to big). Thats all.

The Mini- North star is one of my favorite knives. I normally wear a folder, But when I`m in the mood for a fixed blade, Thats the one I wear.

I don't think I have ever heard anyone disparage the quality of BRKT's products or their customer service. Both are excellent. There are a lot or "Barkie" fans on the forum (and I am one!) who own more than one of their knives and are very satisfied with them.

The only bad things I have ever heard about BRKT ia an oft-repeated rumor regarding one buisness deal that went bad between BRKT and another company/individual. Despite the fact that it is repeatedly brought up whenever BRTK is discussed, the information is all second-hand and I have never seen any reliable proof that BRKT did anything wrong. Even if it was true, as far as I know it was an isolated event, and certainly has never impacted BRKT's customers.

Howdy,

I just picked up my first Bark River, an IMP-AIM.

I am very pleased with the quality and feel of the knife. In fact, I liked it so much I ordered a Fox River AIM to pair it with.

I read about that and it does not concern me. It was another post somewhere(can't remember) about the quality of the knife. But i think it is worth finding out myself. I really like that knife. Thanks for the info.

I own nine barkies, very happy with them all. They are a nice blend of production knife with a custom finish...if that makes any sense:) The sheaths could be a made from a thicker leather stock IMO, but on the up side, Bark River/Sharpshooter Sheaths will go out of their way to satisfy you if you have any sheath issues such as retention, stitching, etc.

jnich005,

Here are a few of my Barkies:

I own five Barkies. Very, very happy with all of them! Gotta say my Mini-Northstar is my favorite EDC. Great knife.

I've never had a bad deal or received a bad knife from any Barkie dealer. The one time I had to send a knife to BRKT, they fixed it up without charge and shipped it back. I think it took about 2 weeks. A pinless impala horn-scaled Highland Special came loose. When I sent it in, I didn;t ask them to add pins, I merely wrote a note that said it probably broke loose because it didn;t have pins. I got a call from BRKT asking if I minded if they put two hollow pins in it, and I said no, I would prefer they did. So they did.

Here's a mini-Northstar, a very nice shape, size and grind.

Here's a slew: Bravo-1, Northstar, Highland Special, mini-Northstar, mini-Skinner (2), mini-Canadian

I owned a mini-northstar for a while. It was a great knife. Well made and very good in the hand. I gave it to my brother for his birthday. :D

Does BRKT still sell the Bravo-1? I didn't see it when I browsed their website.

Yes they do. Man dealers have them still and I believe they are making a fresh batch soon.

I love my one barkie. I have the Bravo 1 and must admit it is one of my favorite knives. The one negative thing I can say is I find the sheaths they coe with to be really crappy. YMMV
