This the second prototype of a lockback design called "Broad Arrow" utility

It's almost there the focus has been how strong and durable can I make it...looks come later. Folders for some reason has had a steep learning curve for me?

All parts have been tumbled except the spring

Ti Frame
Cpm 154 blade
G-10 back-spacer

Thanks
Spencer

Looks STOUT to me! No worries with that tip...

Nice work, i love lockbacks

I like that very much. It looks like the clip is well positionned for a very low profile carry. The only suggestion I'd make is to try with a thumbdisk.

I disagree about the thumbdisk--I personally hate them. With a passion.

Maybe a little texture on the ends of the studs would do the trick.

Looks awesome, otherwise. Hope I can scare up the funds sometime to buy one from you.

hate them normal or with a passion. it doesn't matter, it would be a much more effective way of opening this knife one handed. that's just a simple fact with no personal bias.

Looks like a real workhorse Spencer.
Pleasing utility look as well-you could take it anywhere and hardly raise an eyebrow.

I'd like to see the data from the ergonomic studies supporting this "fact".

the fact is that you disagree because of a personal reason, this is no safe queen. so looks are of lesser importance than functionality. and on this knife a thumb disk would be more functional. if you want to disagree with facts thats fine but back that up with something other than personally hating it.

You contend that "it is a fact" that thumbdisks are "more functional" than thumbstuds, and therefore Spencer should change to a disk. The onus is upon you to support your "fact" with actual data. Stating something is a fact doesn't make it one. Show us the data from the ergonomic study concluding that thumbstuds are inferior to thumbdisks.

Here are some "personal" reasons why I hate thumbdisks:
1) The cutout required in the blade spine is a potential source of stress risers
2) Requires drilling and tapping the blade steel itself
3) Cannot be installed as a simple press-fit
4) Lend themselves to fewer customization options with respect to texturing or orientation (e.g., Scott Cook's Lochsa's angled thumbstud vs. Chris Reeve's Sebenza's stepped thumbstud).
5) Look cheap

I will bow out of this discussion now. Sorry, SAR, for dragging this off the topic of your kickass lockback.

You have told bluejaunte that disks are better than studs. I to would like to see some proof that disks are "better" or "more functional" then studs. What makes a disk more functional? I think this is truly just a personal preference. For me any knife with a disc just feels wrong. For Me studs and spyderco type holes work much better. I am sure For Others a disc feelsbetter. You cannot state as if fact that disks are better than studs or any other method for that matter. There is no better.

To the OP: Great looking knife it looks like a Beast!!!. Sorry for the minor hijack

Are you guys seriously arguing about Disk vs thumbstud get over it.

I started another pair of folders today feeling good about this design, these two may get a nail-nick.

I also have a pretty cool design that I will carve into the side of the frames very simple and dual purpose providing some traction.

Thanks
Spencer

I never said disks are better than studs. I said that a disk would be better for this knife than a stud. see post #5

I heard that !! :)

I like it bro , functional as can be , and is certainly a workhorse.

You make it with what you feel works best..disk , studs , NAILNICK ( long pull milled slot ;) ). I love the design , you just keep knocking design after design out of the park.

That looks very interesting and well made, I'd say you're further along the curve than you think. I'm glad to see it's a lockback (my personal favorite ). I'm not a fan of tanto-style blades but if you wanted stout I think you got it. Please be sure to post more pic's as you develop the design.

Blue Sky you may be happy to see this one, I have 2 on the bench this is the fast back version with a reverse drop point blade.

Trust me when I say the curve is steep I feel I have not even hit the apex of the dam thing.

Thanks
Spencer

I do like it, thanks for sharing

Actually (as I presumptuously don the designer's hat :p) I think the first one would be great with a wide-chord spear point. Something like this maybe:
Spearpoint.jpg

A bit common and boring, I know. It looks like the handle would work with both types though, maybe it could be a future option...

Another solid looking functional design. You post a lot of nice work that looks like it will stand up to hard usage.

Pleasure seeing it.

Peter

Thanks Peter I really appreciate it, I have put lots of time into these designs. Like I said it not even close to done yet.
