Broad Axe ID?

I brought this home from a buddy's house the other day. About 12" wide, beveled only on one side. Unfortunately the rust pitting has eliminated any mark that may have been there. Based on size and shape, any guesses what I have here? Any suggestions on cleaning it up?

Looks like a "Pennsylvania Pattern".
Perhaps a maker's mark will show up after you remove the rust with a wire cup on an angle grinder or drill.

Take a wire wheel to it and I bet you will see a mark. The rust doesn’t look that bad from the picture. You will be surprised what you will find under a little rust.

Pennsylvania and I second the wire wheel. It looks good enough that I would expect to find a mark hidden under the rust.
