Broad axe question from an axe-newbie

'ello all,
I recently picked up a small broad axe at a garage sale that has a thick ridge along the edge curve of the left side...sorry not too familiar with the lingo... has anyone seen an axe head like this? I cant find an example online...wondering if it's a repair?
