Just wondering if anybody has, has used, or has experience using broad axes? (true broadaxe for working logs) I've looked at the Wetterling Broad Axe, and the Gransfors Bruks Broad Axe. The Gransfors is quite a bit pricier than the Wetterling. I've also thought about getting an old blade in good condition from either an antique store or ebay or something, rehandling it, and going that route. (I have no problem using old tools).

What's everybody think? Can anyone help me?

Projects. I'm always looking to build stuff, and all to often I never have the right tools for the job. (gets kind of old). I would use it for building projects. (not chopping or felling or anything like that). At some point in the not so distant future, I'm hoping to get going on building a house. I really like the log cabin style, and this would allow me to put my own blood sweat and tears into it.

So, all in all, I'm looking to get a broad axe so I can use it. (but for what it was intended to do).:D

Wetterling's broad axe is symetrical

Ochsenkopf makes a quite cheap broad axe:

(first one)

There are also quite often antique broad axe on sale on ebay. Ebay austria and germany often have some. Do an international search for "axt" "beile" or "zimmermanbeile" too.
Of course actual quality of these range from excellent to poor.

Ravalliac, Thanks for the link. I've looked at Ox-Head's tools, and while they're a good price on that page, what is the cost of shipping? Well, having ordered many things from the UK, I know it's not cheap. Which puts the Ox-Head in the same price range as the Wetterling.

When you say that the Wetterling is symetrical, what are you refering to? The blade to handle? (i.e. no offset) Or are you talking about the beveling? They can be ordered with all 3 bevels. (Left hand chisel, Right hand chisel, and Double bevel.)

I frequent ebay, and they do have quite a few broad axes, and broad axe heads up for auction. Some obviously better than others. That will most likely be the route I take. Hopefully I'll get a gem in the rough.:D
