I came across this one hidden on Les's website.

Talk about flow! I think it is absolutely stunning. Another super image by Coop, as usual.

Yes I did order one.

hehe - I have one coming my way shortly, as well as a carved Persian to follow - David's knives are works of art!

Outstanding sub hilt. Love the blade shape.... Is this the actual knife you got

There is a damascus one there also that I have been admiring for a while. I would say that i've not seen a Broadwell knife that wasn't noticeably well made and designed.

Simply SUPERB

I cannot think of anything I would want to change on this piece.... shape, lines, material choice.... Freaking outstanding Peter.

Solid proof as to why I feel David is one of... if not THE... premier maker of sub-hilts alive today.

I know David is well known for his carving and is GREAT at it, but when guys like David and Larry Fuegen do a piece that's a little "subdued" from their norm.... like this one... It just makes my heart skip a beat.

Fantastic.

One of the best all-around knifemakers in the world. No doubt.

Peter, that is a great knife. That should handily dispatch the zombies after the virus spreads.

Though this knife is not my style or in my price range, I have studied its image previously with great admiration for its obvious excellence. The koa is the best of the best and its contrast with satin steel is an indelible sight. Everything else is just about perfect to my eyes except one thing . . . the upturned blade tip. Yeah, I know, abject heresy, and I'm the only humanoid since apes went bipedal that ever felt this way, but must all subhilts have this form? I think straight tips or even subtle drop points would look nicer.

Actually, the Loveless subhilt was a clip point. I have seen dagger versions of the subhilt, and even drop points, but imho, the drop points don't look nearly as cool, sexy or proper as the clip points.

The upswept tip is something mostly pioneered by WW Cronk on his fantasy-ish pieces and has been repeated by some very talented makers.

Ken,

This might be a little more to your liking, BUT the price tag is much more exicting.

IMO, $6k is a bit steep.....in other words, I would not pay that freight. ...YMMV.

This Broadwell is fantastic!!! I must say that I don't understand the statement "Must all Subhilts have this form?" I have seen a few. Lovestrand, Luckett, Chappel. Cronk. But these are few and far between. The Classic Subhilt has a straight "Clip" point. I find this style by Broadwell to be refreshing! A bit of a Persian Style. And nicely done!

Peter,

Dietmar's dagger subhilt is fine, as nearly always, but to my surprise, I like the Broadwell blade form, upturn and all, somewhat better. Nevertheless, before I eat the whole crow and cede to STeven entirely, I must view a few more unconventional bladed subhilts.

The price is academic, for I realized long ago that Dietmar's fees and my fiduciary means were irreconcilable strangers. The secret to my collecting strategy (price, price, price) is that I don't have to possess things of beauty, like unforgettable sunsets and mountain top panoramas, to enjoy them, which imparts to my collection the notoriety of being the most insignificant west and east of New York City.

STeven,

Appreciate the history lesson.

Ken

that is a stunner, I can only hope to one day make something even half a wonderful as that. paul
