David Broadwell makes a fine subhilt knife... From "art" style to serious users... Here are two from my collection that I'd like to share this weekend...
This very large piece was made about 13 years ago by David for a fellow maker... I got it in trade over a decade ago.. The knife has a few elements of W.W. Cronk's work, the pommel in particular, but is clearly a Broadwell Design... The blade steel is san mai Damascus with a tighter than usual ladder pattern... It has the sharpest edge I personally have ever seen.. The top edge is sharpened as well.. The handle is ebony wood...
The second subhilt was one David made especially for me.. It is his version of the Black Bear, and is dressed up a bit.. Delbert Ealy's steel was chosen for the blade, and Jim Small added just a touch of gold... Unseen, on the rear of the Ebony wood handle, is a recessed gold inlayed nut, that allows for this knife to be broken down.. The handle contours fit my hand like a glove...
If any of you would like to post your pictures any other subhilts made by David, please do so... Have a great weekend guys... Best, Rich Slaughter
