Finally! I am embarking on a new glorious adventure! I am building a bona fide knifemakers workshop! :D I broke ground this afternoon at about 5:30 after I got off work and by 7:30 I had the plot pretty much level. Tomorrow I will hopefully get the gravel in place (32 tons of gravel does look intimidating) and the forms up. I have nine days until I go back to work and I hope to have the basic structure complete.......that is the plan anyway. Do you guys think I can do it? Its just a goal I set for myself and it doesnt really matter if I actually get it completely done but we will see. It is going to be 25' x 35' with an overhead storage area accessible by a catwalk and perhaps an overhead rail hoist if I can get ahold of the guy selling it in the paper. It is such a major step up from what I have now I cant even imagine what it is going to be like.

Right now my knife making facilities consist of an 8' x 16' portable building so full of tools that I have to spend 30 minutes moving stuff out to make room for me to work. Not to mention the only power comes from an extension cord running from an outlet outside my house that I have to roll up every time I finish to keep the kids safe. But its really not so bad.........my typical knifemaking day consists of:

30 minutes making room for me to work........turn on the sander and run back in the house and turn the tripped breaker back on because I forgot to turn off some of the lights before I started the sander..........start the sander again......go plug the cord back in because I stepped on it....grind....go back and flip the breaker back on because I put to much pressure on it....etc... etc...

Oh and by the way when my wife is around the workshop must be referred to as the garage not a knifemakers shop.........Hey dont judge me its the only way I could get her permission to build the thing. I may wear the pants in the family but she controls the checkbook which of course means she buys the pants that I wear........which means........which means she has me by the huevos! But I love her. I will keep you guys posted on my progress!

My Gawd what have you started:D:D:D:D
Kiddin!
Great for you there is a wealth of talent here never shy about shop building How Toos

Congratulations! That's got to feel good. I think you're going to be very tired when you go back to work... :D

good luck man. you'll find as soon as you get it you'll be able to keep thing neat and organized, plenty of room. no more extension cords...... i'm in the same set-up. nothing like tripping over cords or clip lamp cords dangling on your neck when you're trying to concentrate on a grind huh??
