Finally got to break in the GW. Unfortunately I left the dang camera on the porch that morning so I didn't get a field shot of the knife with the doe. The good news is I now have my buck sticker,"you need to earn a buck by shooting a doe first where I'm hunting."

GW before the washing

Here's a couple shots from my stand. My eyes are about to fall out of my head trying to spot deer in this cover.

My little buddy that would pop by every few hours to see if the orange blob was still sitting in his tree.

And a little buck one of the guys got opening day.

The GW was a joy to use and the Talon hole worked great keeping my hands off the edge while splitting up the rib cage. The edge itself was the same as when I started even after going through bone.

I have four more tags to fill and I'm not planning on sharpening the GW, plus I'm going to use it for skinning duty on Sunday. I'll post how it worked out when I get back.

I love the tongue hanging out of the buck's mouth. Insert Cougar's "Blarg Im ded" cat photo here.

what are you talking about "little buck" for? thats a nice buck in my books. unless you compare it to my dads 26-point muahahaha(he'll admit he got lucky). either way i look forward to the 26th where in pennsylvania it is the first day of buck(and lasts 2 weeks) so i can finally break in my warden too. i have 3 doe tags to go along with it but there are still plenty left in my WMU. good luck in the future everyone. and how high is that tree stand? you might want to take some dramamine incase it gets windy

Nice! That "little buck" would be a wall hanger in most parts of Texas, at least the parts that it didn't cost you $7,000+ to bag one.

Congrats, Helle!

Good luck with your buck. Looks like you've got some good visibility with the leaves off the trees. We're still waiting for the last of ours to fall, but it's getting better.

Don't get me wrong guys it's a nice buck and if I was in MN hunting it would be hanging.

When my friends and I started hunting in the area we are now we had four of those hanging in the shed proud as could be until the locals started dropping by and informing us how we should start practicing proper deer management, "8 points or better and 18" plus inside spread minimum" and told us how to estimate this, "rack outside the ears." So needless to say are newbie took a bit of flack at the registration station for shooting a narrow buck, hair over 15". Only in WI.

He took it for what it was and was still smiling, rightfully so it's a nice buck.

The stand is sitting at about 16' in a nice oak tree that doesn't tend to get a lot of sway. I will say it was windy enough on Sunday that I felt like I'd been on a ship all day long when I got down.

Good luck to all others venturing out in the coming weeks and be safe.

Thanks for the comments

Oh and Steelnut, we ate the tenders and they were delicious :D

16'!?! are you crazy? i just put my treestand up saturday and i had it up all the way, and with the way it was leaning it was probablly up about 17-18 feet. it only took one look and i said, "ohhhh no". needless to say, i took the lowest ladder rung off and now im up at a respectible 12 feet or so. i wish i could figure out how to post pictures, by buddy shot the 3rd biggest buck with a bow in PA(supposively) and i have a picture but cant get it up. i think i showed it too one of the members.i guess i could email it to you if you like

Nice buck, Helle! And nice to know just exactly what a GW is capable of! :D Thanks for the pictures!

A girl needs a knife...

yep, that would be a pretty good buck down here.

Looks like a good spot you put your stand in, hope you get the BIG one now that the Doe is out of the way.

Thanks for the pics:thumbup:
