I was foolish today and broke my 110. I often wish Buck put a lanyard hole on a 110. In the past, I successfully drilled a lanyard hole on the 110 I used to carry. I’ve been carrying a beat up 1992 knife and since I got it for cheap and cosmetically it was dinged and dented and scratched, I did a few mods. I checkered the ebony, using a bastard file and triangle file. I didn’t do the best job, but it wasn’t horrible. This afternoon, I wanted to drill a lanyard hole. My better half warned me against it. I should have listened. I was a hair off in my calculations and drilled into the lock spring. A couple of openings and closings and “ping!” The lock bar lost all tension and the spring popped loose. The drill bit into it where it sat in the spacer. Live and learn, I guess.

MT_Pokt MT_Pokt had lanyard back spacers made for awhile, but think he said he's out of them now. he figured out a way to do it without affecting the knife functioning at all. it had to be taken apart to have it installed. ill.let him comment.on his design but I assume he made it the way he did due to space restraints.

A guy I know drilled the rear bottom pin out and installed a bail with a new longer pin on his. I generally don’t use lanyards except when I’m working elevated. That’s why I keep my LT handy as it has a factory lanyard hole.

I wonder if the spring just scooted back? You might be able to get it back in place and drive something in the new hole to hold it.

The spring retention spacer isn't an overly difficult part to fabricate with hand tools.

I know the one I made of aluminum, with a finger ring and bottle opener, is blasphemy of the highest order. But it worked. 😜

You're not foolish. You attempted to add a useful feature that most people wouldn't even think of trying. I commend you for your effort. 👍
Thanks! I’d done it successfully in the past. Live and learn.
I've never done anything like that . If the blade is still serviceable, it can be fit into another handle. If you can find a 110 with a broken tip, you could swap blades and feel redeemed.
The blade is perfectly serviceable. This looks like the tip had been repaired but there’s plenty of life left in the blade.

If you really zoom in, you can see where the drill bit drilled into the spring.
