broke my core

I dropped my leatherman core onto concrete the other day and the lock broke right off. I would like to send it back for a replacement if this is covered, but I threw out all of my literature that came with it. So if someone could tell me how to go about sending it back (where, and what should I include with it) it would be appreciated.

Better call to see if it's covered but I've heard good things about their CS. -DT

Whenever my wave breaks I send it back, I get a new one in return.I always have one for a backup so I'm not without it for a few weeks.

The Core is a piece of shit. Leatherman had a good design, but chose to use cheap materials. Too bad...

They're aren't any cheap materials in the Core. The plastic liners are strong enough to perform their function and the implements are made of the same steel as the rest of their line. The Core is an excellent tools made of excellent materials.

ESPECIALLY the core. The core is hands down the toughest tool i have ever used, and that is why i gave it to my buddy before he started basic. Do you actually own a core KTMGUY, or do you just like bashing it? I'm pretty sure all the steel in it isn't cheap, would you like to elaborate on which materials in the core are cheap? I bought a powerlock to replace the core, and it is also a beast, but no stronger than the core

Yeah my core was a tank, it just hit the pavement at the perfect angle to break. I have used it as a hammer, pry bar, etc... It is the toughest multi-tool I could find, and I have owned quite a few multi tools.

I'm sure they'll fix it under warranty. I've sent stuff back to them that was merely worn out (not the tool's fault it got used hard) and they fixed it, no problem.

I'm curious though, did the casting that is the lock break, or did the lock just fly apart with the pieces intact?

I had the same thing happen, those little pins that hold the lock in place will break if you drop your tool on a hard surface. Thats why now I am very careful not to drop my tool. I wish leatherman would fix that with a better locking mechanism.

Well, just today, while cutting my tomato vines off of the cages, wow, AGAIN the locking thing broke, this makes twice, and it is the Core. That piece is crap, the rest of it is solid, but that piece is crap.

Try the Wave.I wonder if you sent it back and complained that it was inferior, if they would swap it with something else.

Well, I called and asked, they said no replacement with a wave, so I sent it in for repair. Almost a month later, UPS shows up, I opened it, and it was a brand new one. Crap, and I had the old one almost scalpel sharp and the serrated edge ground to straight. But at least it's new.

They are pretty good with replacements. I once broke my Supertool, but it was abuse rather than a defect; I was using the tiny flat screwdriver as a lever and the end broke - hardly surprising. I didn't have any of my purchase documents with me when I went to the shop to ask whether it could be repaired, but they took it for warranty work no questions. I guess the Supertool hadn't been around for 25 years yet so it had to be under warranty lol.

Well in a few days (!) I got a call to say a replacement was in, and when I went to get it it was a Supertool 200, so I got an upgrade out of it as well!

I'm pretty happy with that level of service.
