I just broke my Fusion Fixation. How's the SOG customer service? They told me briefly to sent it to them and they'd work it out. This happen to anyone else? BTW this is my first SOG, so first impression is not that great... Pictures here.

I was doing some light batoning, testing a few knives that I recently acquired, and suddenly I was holding a handle and looking at a blade on the ground. The knife performed well up to that point. I had batoned through about 3 logs at this point (small, about 2-3 inch diameter) then I hit a knot halfway down and one swing broke it in half. I want to emphasize that I was doing it right. I did not baton with a hammer on cement, this was a (rotten even) log aprox. 2 inch diameter, being batoned with a green log aprox. the same size. I know this is not a top-end knife, and that it used the Chinese 8Cr13MoV. I didn't expect it to hold a razor's edge while I put it through hard use, but I didn't think I would have issues with it being brittle either.

This happen to anyone else? How's the SOG warranty service?

Thanks

EDIT: That's WD40 on there, not water.

No that has never happened to me. To me, the Fusion series is like the generic version of Sog even though it shares the same name(Sog). It's like comparing a Ford Fiesta to a Ford Mustang, two different animals. Not sure how Sog would handle this warranty. I'm sure Chris will see your post at sometime and let you know one way or the other.

In the mean time you might want to look at the Seal Pup, Seal Team, Force, Etc. Those knives are the Mustang's. I can vouch for the Seal Pup, It's a beast.

It does stink that your fusion broke, it could just be a 1-1000 defect, don't let it deter you from some of Sogs higher end models. Just my 2 cents.

Welcome to the Sog Forum and BF in general, glad to have you

Well this is not the first Fusion Fixation Bowie that I've seen broken at the same point.

SOG has mentioned the fusion series is not meant for hard use. If you're looking for a hard use knife, you should consider the Seal Team Elite or the SOG Bowie 2.0.

If this comes back then I'll use it for less demanding tasks. As I said, it was doing very well up until its end. This for me is as much a test of the knife steel as anything else, you could see the knife was made well for what it was (design, shape, weight, fit & finish) and those higher end knives use a better steel (AUS 8 is good stuff) If it turns out it wasn't a defect, I'll know the limitations of the 8Cr13MoV steel. In all likelihood I'll send it to SOG in the next couple days.

Thanks

I literally just broke my fixation bowie 5 minutes ago. I was batoning and it snapped at the exact same point. I'm not really surprised since its 8cr13mov, but i still kinda hoped it would stand a little more abuse.
