Today one of the jaws on my supertool broke off while i was using it to grip a nut whie i used a screwdriver.I've only had the Supertool about 3 weeks. This is the first time i've ever had a Leatherman of any kind break on me,and ive been using them since 1990 when i got my orignal Leatherman.Carried the original for 9 yrs til i got my Wave.Carried the Wave up til 3 week ago when i got the Supertool.Anyone else ever broke a Leatherman?.Guess ill hafta send mine back for warranty repair tomorrow.

Not to offer an excuse for Leatherman ,but there is
what's known as manufacturing variances in all mass
produced products. Ya musta got one of them, mate.

My original supertool has had the snot worked out
of it doing all kinds of stuff it wasn't supposed to do.
Musta got a good one I guess. Anyway, send it back
Leatheman will fix it.

I also have the original, super, and wave. I don't use them daily so I haven't had a problem. I would like to know, however, why you (anyone would) chose to carry the super every day instead of the wave? Since the wave came later, I would guess that it's supposed to be more advanced?

I upgraded to a Supertool 4 years ago. I've been using Leatherman's for years and have never had this happen. . .and I use my multi-tools hard ! !

Either take it back to the store that you purchased it from or send it back to Leatherman. . .

I'm sure that either way. . .you'll get a new one.

At least yours will get fixed, my best friend moved and took my leatherman with him. Boy I sure miss my Leatherman.:(

Sam the supertool is bigger and a little more sturdy than the wave. Its closer to having a set of full sized regular pliars, comes in handy when you want to use it alot for heavy duty stuff.

Kdarmy, the jaw snapped clean off right at the base near the pivot point.Kinda stunned me at fist, because i wasnt using it very hard at all.I've used and abused my other leathermans alot worse than this before. As to why i carry the Supertool instead of my Wave..Well,i carried the Wave for bout 3 yrs and it was "OK",but it just didnt seem to grow on me for some reason,I use the pliers more than anything, and the Supertool seemed like it would be better in that regard, and besides,i was just looking for an excuse to get the Supertool anyway..LOL.Im sure Leatherman will make it right, cuz IMHO they are some of the best multi-tools on the market today.

At this year IWA (Nuremberg, Germany) I have seen with my own eyes how Tim Leatherman put the 4-mm thick nail into wire cutter, put the tool onto the floor (one handle down, another up) and jumped with all his weight onto upper handle until cut the nail.
Tim is medium sized man, might weight about 75 kilograms and he jumped on the tool several times without any tool damage.

Maybe hard to believe but I saw this.

Probably something was wrong with your one, ask to replace it.

I agree with Matt 100%. The Wave has a more convenient way of use, but the supertool is, well, super.

During a reserve duty in the IDF we had the pleasure of using and abusing the Supertool for a whole month in the manner you describe.

It was hard on any tool - but it came through and saved the day (for 30 consecutive days...)

The tool finally gave in and broke - and was replaced - no questions asked.

for 5-6 years daily used it hard but didn't abuse it.

I did twist a screw driver a bit and my wirecutters have a few dents in the blades but they work great.

I do want a wave next for size scissors and open hand opening blades

i agree, leatherman is a good company but even with good quality control no company can guarantee 100% no defects. most likely you can get it replaced free of charge, but i always believe that real jobs need real tools i.e snap-on, mac, craftsman
