Hello,

Ive had my Manix 2 for about a year now and its my favorite edc blade. About a month ago I dropped it while it was closed and the little plastic post that goes into the spring on the ball lock broke off. I went to Spyderco.com and filled out the form telling them what happen. The next day they sent me an email saying "Please send in your knife for warranty evaluation". Is there any way I can just buy the part straight from Spyderco? I dont think its covered under warranty, I was my fault and Ive had the knife apart a few times for some custom g10 scales I did. Oh and its a 3-4 week wait;(

Thanks,

Chris

Call and ask or send an email.

Call Spyderco, that's the best thing you can do...unless you want to wait.
Or just try to google something, maybe you can find a store that has those things...
Good luck!
Or and BTW, has your Manix2 lock ever fail?

The cage in the ball lock and hat plastic pin was always my concern about the lock, hope they take care of you!!!

I would just do what they say and send it in, for 2 reasons--1, the Manix 2 can be a real pain to assemble and disassemble, and I don't know if voiding your warranty is such a great idea.

And secondly, Spyderco W&R is extremely helpful and accommodating, and I'm guess that if it's just a simple fix like replacing the polymer cage around the ball bearing lock, they will do it even if it was the result of an accident and not a defect. I can't speak for them, all I can say is that they take very good care of their customers. So my recommendation would definitely be to send it in.

Hello,

Im going to call on Tuesday. Ive never had my lock fail on me but I have seen people MAKE it fail with spine whacks and batoning. It still works fine with the piece broken but the spring that pushes on the plastic cage thing bends with out the plastic supporting it. If you take apart a Spyderco for maintenance does it void the warranty?

Thanks for the input guys,

Chris

Just bite the bullet and send it in. If it was an accident that you broke it I'm betting they fix it free, you will just have to wait for it's return.

According to their written policy taking apart your knife would void the warrenty but in the end it's their call.If the knife is repairable they will do it for a reasonable cost.If it was mine I would send it in with a detailed note about what you did and the problem with your email Add,phone#,name and mailing Add. and have them fix it right.

Send it in to Spyderco and give them the chance to check it out. If they can take care of it then that's the best possible outcome in my opinion. If they can't for some reason at least the avenue was explored and you can look for alternatives.

for the weight of G10 it is.

for the work not sure. unless you have a pretty precise CNC and even this will require quite a lot of work for programing the machine.

but for the OP your best bet is to send it in imho. if they send the cage to you, you install it and your knife fails after this you'll have no more warranty.

Seeing as the OP hasn't posted to this thread in a month, am guessing he called Spyderco and they sent him the part.

i have done one in the past in jade ghost green g10, it worked out really well, im looking for the pics of it so ill post that when i fine them. A LOT of work, very hard sculpting that tiny thing lots of work.

I think he was just saying he didn't think making one out of G10 was a good idea from a materials and precision standpoint. It didn't sound like he was saying it was a bad idea because of who was making it.
