I was trying to rescale my vic hiker with ghost green g10 but when i drilled holes for the rivets it made the g10 look ugly...
So i tried to make the rivets flush with the knife....
as soon as I did the whole thing fell apart.
I have all the peices but no rivets, Can anyone put this back together for me If I mail it to you with cash for the return postage?

richard, It turns out he charges 55$ per hour...

so if anyone else can help me out with this that would be great.
Im sure I could dig up some stuff to send you for your time.

A Vic Hiker isn't very expensive. To put it back together for you, anyone is going to charge more than the knife is worth.

You should have more correctly posted:

Hello. I just made a mess out of a $18 (nearly) disposable knife and was wondering if I sent someone all the pieces if they would take their time, effort, and expertise to put it back together for me at NO CHARGE.

While I don't want to pay you for your time or work to repair this knife, or to repackage it and mail it back to me when you are finished, I will happily pay the actual postage back to me, since you will probably have to take the knife down to the post office in person to re-mail it.

It would have been a lot closer to your intent, and easier to understand.

Just buy another one. At $18 for one of these brand new, you will come out even better than you might be thinking since you won't have to pay postage both ways on the knife. And you will have a new knife, with a warranty. Win/win!

I guess your right,
it just seems like a waste since I have all theese perfect parts laying around now.... hmmmm maybe I can whip somthing up.
any ideas?

I wanted g10 handles on it.

and how is that working out for ya? :p

OK...seriously. I sent Mike L. an email about this thread. I've bought at least a dozen rehandled SAKs from him. He's good with SAKs and will at least be able to give you some advice on what to do. The advice may be to chalk this up to an $18 lesson but we'll see.

Just get a nail or steel pin of some kind, line up all the parts, and flatten the head with a ball peen hammer a little at a time until it feels right opening and closing. Or you could also put a pin through it and squeeze both sides of the pin slowly in a vise until it feels right. if nothing else you will have a custom Swiss army knife with no handles that you can use as a beater knife and it will always remind you of being more careful next time and thinking more of what not to file. You can always epoxy handles back on made from wood or whatever i f you don't like the naked look.

amazingdrew, I have sent you an email through the forums.
You can email me: oldepharte (at) msn.com if need be.

Step One: Buy a new one.
Step Two: DON'T BREAK THIS ONE :p

There you are! Follow this simple multi-step program and you'll have an unbroken knife in no time!

Now see, that's the thing with the Swiss; everything they build is made to a precise tolorence.
Zen and nothing more!

It sounds like you are trying to throw a bad light on richard because he wasn't going to spend his time working on your knife for free. Lots of people modify knives and I have never heard of the first one that does it for free. Not very cool...

If you don't know how to peen a pin then why did you rip the knife apart? I'll do it for you. I'll even cut you a deal and only charge you $85 per hour.

If I were you I'd just buy a replacement. When you're ordering online, buy some replacement pins and experiment with modding your knife. I'd first visit the SOSAK subforum on Knife Forums but you'll need to request permission to join. In there you'll find lots of modders that explain (with pics) how they modded their knives.
Maybe you can also buy another inexpensive SAK that has other implements not on the one you broke, but would like to have in a SAK. Then you can combine parts and come up with your own custom SAK with all the implements you want.

I did that with my Farmer. I always wanted scissors and a pocket clip on it so when FelineVet and Scibeer (great SAK modder on SOSAK) came out with a limited run HAIII farmer scale I put in my order for my custom SAK with scissors and clip.

Good luck!

That is not it at all.
richard sent me the name of somone who may be able to help me,
I was only telling richard that it did not work out becuase he charged 55$ an hour
for his work.
I wasnt talking down anyone I totally understand needing
to be piad for your work, I was just hoping someone around
here could do it for free.
I found somone else and all is good
I would never talk anyone down.

I messed up my 100$ swisschamp... decided to give up on fixing it, gave it to my brother whom uses it (im just a little more anal, it was more cosmetic and a tool was ground crooked) a lot, and i just bought a new one. If you like it enough, and want to have it new buy it. Like they said, 20$ bought and done with. It's worth it. You could have drilled out the same size holes and depth in the g10 as on the cellidor for the original scales. I could have told you that :-) then some expoxy and youre mint.
