Ive had this knife for months and have never used it because its so beautiful. Well Ive been having a crappy week and Ive got a cold bug and got sick of sitting around the house so I decided to do something fun.

I grabbed my M9 and went outside and started chopping away. Its a great knife and It feels really fast in hand. I brought my Rat Daddy along for a comparison. After a few minutes of chopping and slashing with the M9 I tossed it at this huge stump I have in my yard so It would stick there and I could use my Rat daddy. Well It hit the stump a little sideways and stuck into the ground. I heard a loud cracking sound and I feared the worst. I pulled it out of the dirt and sure enough it hit a rock that was buried about 2 inches into the ground and snapped the tip off :(

The damage is pretty bad and Im going to have to do alot of work to fix it. Ive never damaged a knife before other than some tiny edge chips and I feel like a complete idiot.

Man, that SUCKS!!! I wasn't sure if this was even possible with SR-101, now I see that it is. :( Sorry to hear of your loss! :barf:

If it makes you feels any better, the POINTY tip of my new Rucki bit me last night. It drew blood too. Felt like getting poked with a needle! :foot:

Send it in, we'll be able to fix that no problem.

Drop me an email for details on shipping it in.

It appears to be a total loss. Send it to me and I will dispose of it.

That's not bad at all my friend, a little work on the stones and she's ready to abuse again.

how do I know? Ask my Rat Mastiff, it will tell you a tale of mass abuse and total disregard for knife safety. :o

I dont throw my knives though, afraid one will bounce back and come after me. :p Rats are known to bite back.

Eric you guys are the best. It's really comforting knowing how strongly you guys stand behind your products. I think I am going to send the knife to Nate once the coating is gone and have him fix the tip and turn it into a convexed laser. As for now, even with the tip messed up it still performs fine.

Luckily for me, I discovered that, much like a bull moose in heat, wounding the M9 only made it angrier.

Last pictures make it look like you broke off some more of the tip, but its just stabbed into the stump.

Yes....great looking grips on that blade mate....and you didn't break it (I imagined the last inch of the blade missing when I read the title), you just gave it a little character... it is what I tell the Mrs about all the damage I have sustained over the years....."character....that just adds character sweetheart" .... ;)

Yeah, the first night I had mine I dropped it on a tile floor, hit tip first, bent it a little. Now I have a little spike at the tip coming out away from the spine. And I have dropped it on my foot too, and drew blood :o

As for the tip, it's not that bad, 7 minutes on a ceramic rod and it'll be fine :D

that doesn't look bad - nice to see it getting some use, too!
I second the vote for taking a file to the back and adding a very minor swedge to true the tip back up.

It took me months to use it! I think this M9 is the most gorgeous blade Ive ever owned. Im glad I finally decided to use it. I took the tip to a 220 grit wheel and tried to fix it but its still not perfect. Once the coating is gone Ill send it to nate for his spa treatment and have him fix the tip properly. The M9 is a really unique blade. Every time I use it I feel that its a knife first, not a chopper. It is very light even with its saber grind and works well for clearing brush but I think it's best role is as a camp knife for food prep, fire starting, light wood processing etc... For its length its very nimble in hand and the trigger choil makes it GREAT for fine work. Im half tempted to bring it next time I got hunting and see if I can process a deer with it. I really believe I could.

Thanks for selling me this blade. Ive really enjoyed it and the sheath has held up great! Ive even taken it out in the rain and it suffered no damage and dried out nicely.

Glad you like it - it's a great knife, but I would never have used it and don't really believe in safe queens.
you definitely have the right idea with "large camp knife" -- it would be perfect using that to slice up meat for campfire fajitas.
for now don't sweat the ding - take it out and use it until the coating wears off - then she'll be ready for some spa treatment.

I feel your pain. First time I accidentially chopped a rock in half with my FBMLE I just cringed!

Always a bummer.
