I believe a sharp knife is a happy knife, so a CHIPPED knife is a SAD knife.

Now what? I can get it sharpened and have the tip rounded off for about $7, or get a new 4" at Ross Dress for Less for $15 or so. It's safe to get it sharpened, I think.

I'm a little surprised. Farberware are supposed to be good knives, no? I always use a nylon cutting board. How could it have chipped?

Sharpen or toss?

ETA: Done! It's fixed!

Buy a better knife and move on.

real nice:jerkit:......i say sharpen it -use it in good ehalth if u like it.....remove metal from the spine to save valuable steel from the edge and to not change th eprofile of the knife....ryan:thumbup:

i forgot to add-i would sharpen it myself....good learning experience to fix a tip....ryan

Hi,

I'm surprised it broke. I've got a few Faberware knives, and they seem a bit soft to me. I think mine would bend before breaking. But like most everybody else, I'd just reshape and resharpen it and put it back to work.

What kind of file should I use to do the work? I don't know anything about this kind of stuff... any guidance is appreciated. I get the idea, file from the spine towards the blade, just don't know what kind of file to use.

Thanks

Peak Oil,
If it is hardened stainless you probably won’t get very far with a file. I would suggest; 1) a medium or course diamond stone ( a normal Norton $7 stone from the hardware store will work but it will probably “dish out” before you are done or if you have access to it a belt sander. With the belt sander use bare hands if it gets too hot to touch let it cool off before starting again.
Good luck
Ray

I went with the file and a c-clamp, now need some wood to hold it and we'll see how this goes.
