Broken 810 tip. Advice?

I broke the tip on my 810 today. Nothing major, just a millimeter or 2. I'm thinking about just grinding the tip back in by removing material from the spine at the tip (by hand on a stone). Should I do this, or just send it in? I'm perfectly capable of restoring the tip to being somewhat normal again, I just didn't know if it would be more advantageous to let Benchmade do it or not. Thoughts?

If you have the skill and confidence to do it yourself I say go for it. However, if you send it in BM will not only fix it but give it a tune up free of charge. They will clean, inspect, lubricate and replace parts if needed. I've never been disappointed whenever I've sent in a knife in for whatever reason.

All the best!

I had a mini grip that had a chipped tip from falling on a ceramic tile floor. Benchmade ground it back to the original shape tip and cleaned, lubed and replaced some Omega springs and a new pocket clip for FREE.

If it was me, I would go ahead and fix it. If it's just a couple of millimeters, you can grind that out with a medium grit whetstone in short order. I hate sending things out in the mail for repairs, especially as Thanksgiving and Christmas approach with all the holiday mail and all the shipping agents being swamped with packages.

If you send it in and they don't warranty it, it's only $30-$35 to replace the whole blade.

I've repaired a lot of broken tips.
The 810 has a stout tip. Which blade, M4 or M390?

On this type of blade style do not remove metal from the top of the blade as it will cause more problems. As others have said just sharpen it out, easy fix.

Fixed. I just put it on a 600 grit stone, and ground it back in. Then cleaned it up on ceramics. It looks pretty much normal now. The tip is actually a bit more stout now. I'm happy.
