Hello all, I have been getting more into forging of late and have been looking at getting an anvil. I went down to a neighbors house the other day to look at an anvil her husband had before he died. We haven't discussed price yet ( if its even worth anything)....I have major concerns first ,the anvil was broke..the anvil cracked and broke clean off of the bottom portion. Someone welded some pieces of metal perpendicular to the break on two sides. they DID NOT do any welding to the break itself....is this going to be a problem and fail after some use? If so is it fixable to make it a functioning anvil. And second on the anvil face back by the hardy hole, the metal chipped out. It reminds me of a piece of slate the way its chipped out, about 1/4" down in a 2" by 6" piece. The chipping isnt that bad for me...the hardy hole is still good but the pritchel hole is not. so what do you guys think...worth anything? if I can get it for 75$...100$ is it worth it?
I dont have pics and dont know if I can get some...I dont know the brand but was told he got it from the railroad. Its about 2ft long with a real long horn...id say 200+lbs...
advice is appreciated!
EDIT: After looking at pics from ebay it looks like its a Trenton anvil. I saw no markings on the anvil when I looked...its rusty but the face doesnt look too bad besides from the chipped out chunk.
