I have seen a photo somewhere on this site of a Becker BK7 or BK9 that has snapped in half. Was it ever revealed how this had happened?
I am interested in the Becker line and have never read of any issues about them being brittle!
Can anybody clarify this?

I am suprised it snapped doing what they did though, using it to do a pull up on,how do you think say a Ranger knife would hold up to this test?

Is this because they are made of spring steel and have more give?
Would D2 behave in the same way or does this have a certain amount of give?

The more knowledgeable will correct me if I'm wrong but I would think D2 would be even more brittle than the steel Becker uses.

I'd go with Ranger. Or barring that, the CS Trailmaster, though the same steel as the Becker, it's thicker stock will hold up much better for prying...

I am not seeking a knife to carry out such tests but in a survival situation it is not inconcievable that such a feat may be replicated and I was just curious as to which steels excel at such tests!

There is a photo showing a man standing on an Extrema Ratio knife thet is wedged in a rock face on the Extrema site,so do I take it N690 Cobalt S/Steel is good under this type of test.I thought S/Steels were more brittle than common high carbon steels when put under load?

So, are you saying Cliff ,that it is only due to the Ranger being thicker and not down to Spring steel having more elasticity in it's makeup?

Due to it being thicker it would not even be stressed to the point it would take a set. If further force was applied it would be expected to bend further before it broke.

forgive me for dragging this out Cliff but how would a similar sized blade out of say 440c stand up?
