Broken BK2 Handles

Hello all,

I got my very first BK2 in the mail the other day. It's the nicest knife I've ever invested in and I've wanted it for a couple of years now.

I've thought of a dozen different things I want to do to this knife, from stripping it and putting on a patina to replacing the scales with micarta. The problem with that is that my funds are limited, so I just put some inner tube around the handle for now to add grip.

Yesterday I loosened the handle to take it off and get a good look at the knife, just for fun. When I went to put the scales back on, I remembered the dozens of posts and videos I'd seen about the bolts becoming loose, and I decided to tighten it down real good.

When I looked at the handle after I'd finished, there was a gap between the scale on the bolt side and the tang of the knife. The bottom of the bolt wells had warped on all three holes. To try and fix it, I tested on one of the holes. First I applied constant pressure with no luck. Then I tried sanding. That had marginal results. Finally, I tried cutting the excess material off, and now the hole I was testing on won't hold a bolt well. For right now the two other bolts and some more inner tube are holding it together, but I would like to replace them. I still don't have the money for micarta scales.

What I want is to ask if anyone here has an extra set of becker grivory scales laying around that they would be willing to gift or sell to me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

You cannot crank down on the bolts. You're putting metal against plastic, and metal will win every time. If loose bolts worry you, just put firm tension on them with a bit of Loctite or clear nail polish on the threads. To safeguard against too much torque, I will even orient an Allen wrench so that I'm spinning the short end.

Sounds like you got hooked up. Congrats on the new blade.

Yea a little loctite does wonders.....and you are better off getting them from a forum member. Kabar doesn't really keep extra on hand. (At least thats what they told me when a scale fell off my bk2 a few years ago)

they are not broken. they were damaged. slight difference.

sorry that you had that happen to you, but solved at any rate.

Sorry for the late reply everyone! I called kabar and they hooked me up in just a couple of days. Now my BK2 is as good as new!
