Thanks for the support glad they replaced it.

I must say, the fact that KaBar does not cover batonning under their warranty surprised me. Apparently ESEE does for the BK-12.

Since when does Kabar not cover batoning for a BK2? If this is true I have probably just bought the last Kabar I will ever buy. Might be time for my first ESSE.

I'm not entirely sure about the rationale, but we might remember here that some folks choose to "baton" with a hammer or hatchet rather than a wooden baton.

The Rowen made BK12 carries the same warranty as the ESEE products do, no questions asked you break it they replace it.

I've never seen their warranty before and I doubt if most people have. It looks like a standard knife warranty that was common and customary for ages with several manufacturers and probably in place before Ka-bar started producing the Becker line. Maybe they should have a separate one since the failures for Beckers specifically are such an oddity that they make headlines and get personal attention from Ethan. I think a "you break it, we replace it" warranty makes more sense for the Becker line because they are hard use knives by design and it would present a more accurate representation. They sure wouldn't have to replace many.

I'm glad they sent you a new knife though, that was a stand up thing to do given the circumstances.

hm....uh oh. Yours is the first BK2 I've ever seen broken so I found that impressive. If I ever did manage to break mine, which I feel is almost impossible, then I know to not say it was from batoning!

Its hard to say that when the spine is mushroomed from an axe :D Glad they got you hooked up though.

If this was the knife that was batoned with metal then that's very different. We have always known here in the Becker forum that Kabar can deny your warranty if you do that. And they should deny it. But it has always been accepted as fact here that Kabar allows batoning of Becker knives.

My bad this isnt that guy, this is the BCUSA guy that was battoning the handle.

I think using a wooden baton is essential in some cases, especially if you only carry a shorter blade.
Batoning with a hammer seems unnecessary but I don't see why the BK2 shouldn't be able to handle it within reason.
I'd say they don't see too many abused to complete failure like that.

Nope not mushroomed or had an axe hammer or anything metal on it...there were pics on my first post for everyone to see.
