Hi All, European spyderco owner here. I've owned my Para 2 for about a year now. I've really enjoyed it, lovely and light and a pleasure to use at work. This afternoon I was visiting my parents and messing around with a piece of hazel just carving a spiral from the bark and then pointing the end. I was taking a big piece off the end and the blade snapped completely off at the hole. I was cutting fairly straight about an inch up from the tip from what I remember. Anyway just wondering if anyone has had similar failure and if spyderco will warranty it or sell a replacement blade.

Yikes that I couldn’t tell ya, however your pics aren’t showing at all. Never hurts to ask spyderco though.

Are those swapped scales? Doesn’t look like the purple that comes on the s110? 100% sure it isn’t a fake? Not implying just asking cause that’s pretty odd.

The scales look legitimate, as does the bug on the blade. They appear to be a little grimy but he's obviously been using it for a year.

Contact Spyderco customer service Adam and hope for a warranty claim, that's about all you can do. Although I suppose you could always commission someone for a reblade, since I don't think they send out spare blades.

Yeah that's what I thought, a real shame they don't sell spares.

Spyderco does not sell or replace blades, but they WILL want to examine your blade. If it broke due to a defect in material or workmanship they will replace it. Contact Spyderco Warranty and Repair (I would suggest calling them during their business hours), they may be able to work through one of their European distributors. Otherwise, you'll have to deal with international shipping to get it to them.

That looks like it was cracked for a while.
It's had a very easy life til now, never dropped while open. I only ever used it for opening bags of flour and the odd bit of whittling, did break the tip turning a little screw but that seems to be a common mistake.

Yeah I've sent an email, if i don't get a response within a few days then I'll call them.

I'm sure they get thousands of e-mails every day. Who knows how many run afoul of spam filters or just get overlooked? A phone call is much more certain.

You can see what appears to be a crack pattern in the photos. To really say more they'd need to see the part and to over it with a high power magnifier.

I think it is purple it’s just the photo.zoom in closer and you can see a bit better.

Yeah, bit of a noob here. Looks like there may be some internal defect in the blade but I'm no metallurgist.

I'm no metallurgist either but it looks pretty normal to me. It's a very high carbide stainless and I'd guess that you just torqued it too hard and it snapped. You might consider both a different steel and a different design for that sort of wood work. There is no harm in getting in touch with warranty though. Good luck.

Not sure what's the purpose of posting here by OP. It is a very hard steel, meaning it is not among the toughest in the market. I agree with the dog above. Get a knife with a tougher steel.
