so I mentioned in another thread that the stockman had a broken sheepsfoot blade however the hell you spell it. I bought it that way at a flea market. Month later same flea market I buy something else from a dude who turns out to be guy I bought stockman from. I used the stockman to open a battery part of a set of digital calipers and put new batteries. He said "hey boy you bought that knife from me I told you story bout that broken blade right?" His English was bad he was Hispanic I said "no sir ya didn't" man he musta googled how to say the story in English sounded like he practiced million times for whoever bought it but forgot to tell me so here's the story paraphrased because I don't wanna type Spanish words I understood. "My father gave me that knife when I was a little child bout that tall (held his hand two feet high) best I can remember I used it for everything from spreading butter cutting stake taking out screws etc. one night late night dad and me was having a bonfire in the desert of Mexico on our way to America. Dad told me to go inside the small tent we had and put out the candle and not to come out. I left my knife. I heard barking then I heard a snap and just seconds later bang bang. My dad had shot two rabid dogs. Told me he was sorry for breaking the blade the gun got jammed. I remember saying something I don't remember then goin to sleep." I said "then why did you sell it to me it clearly means a lot" he told me "I'm past my time joints ache beyond repair. Can't even open the thing. I carried it every day of my life. It's time to pass on a great knife to the next generation. I have no kids. Promise me you'll use it like you would any other knife despite knowing this story. I would hate to have it go unused just because of meaning." then he said a blessing in Spanish and I continued through the flea market. Man I'll say it is a hell of a nice slicer. Y'all should share your stories behind broken knives
