I broke the clip on my FRN Delica. My fault. No manufacturing error. I hooked it on the arm of a chair and it broke off.

I received a document from Warranty stating that a replacement clip would be $20.00 plus $5.00 S&H.

Is this true?

Surely a clip doesn't cost that much.

If it does, does anyone have any spare clips they are looking to sell?

weird, last i checked, SFO just shipped those things out for like 5 bucks a pop.

Yeah, that is odd. SFO customer service is shipping an Endura FRN clip to me at no cost.

Try giving them a call. I spoke with Cody, and he was very helpful.

Best regards.

Was it only the clip itself that was damaged? The FRN handle didn't get damaged at all? The clip mounting area wasn't stripped? These might be reasons why they're asking more money, but honestly I don't know. Just throwing some ideas into the mix. Giving them a call is your best bet.

That _is_ kinda wacky. Just so we're clear, this is a post-98 Delica with the removable metal clip, right? 'Cause if it was a molded-clip model, they'd have to do the conversion.

I'd give the warrantee number a call and ask for an explanation. Email and snail-mail are really inadequate when it comes to getting answers forom companies.

I will try calling. That was just the email response.

Yes the clip is removable.

Just the clip is 5.00 from SFO.I had a weird talk with W and R last week.I think that the new guy just isn't up to speed yet.
If the well that the clip sets in is busted out and you send it in the only way they can fix it is to replace it and if they deem that it is not a defect on there part they will only give you a 35% discount off of MSRP on a new one. This is how it was explain to me by W and R but after a post in the Spyderco.com forum I found out that it wasn't exactly correct.
Heres a link to that post it may help explain things

For some reason, I keep forgetting to go over to Spyderco's own forum. Thanks for the link.

I called SFO and ordered a clip for my Salsa about a week and a half ago. $5.00 flat, shipping included. They sent it taped to a 2004 Spyderco catalog. Took about a week to get here. I got it Friday.

I think I was charged $7.99 plus mail charges to Canada. Though still high in my opinion, it's better than $25.00 plus.

Thanks to all that responded.

Smith & Wesson sent me a gun part no charge, no shipping, no hassle.

:)

I broke the spring of my Kershaw Chive some time ago. I emailed the company and they sent me 5 (five) spare springs and a spare clip (torx screws included) though I didn' ask for it. They said just in case. They didn't charge me with anything, though I was willing to pay the shipment :)
I must confess that after this experience I am looking at Kershaw even more friendly (I used to like their knives anyway - though there's not an appropriate statement to say here, sorry).

About $25 for a clip:

"REPAIR INFORMATION:
• Sharpening – Complimentary provided the edge of the knife is not severely damaged – Please include $5.00 for shipping and handling.

For any of the following repairs, please include $20.00 plus $5.00 shipping and handling:
• Blade or Edge – Broken tip from prying or dropping, destroyed edge due to improper sharpening, loose blade from abuse, rust due to neglect or other blade issues. (Spyderco is unable to replace blades in most models)
• Clips –Stripped screw holes, screws sheered off, broken or missing clip or other clip issues.
• Scale or Handle –Missing scale screws, knife action stiff, missing Kraton, or other handle issues. "

Taken from "Warranty& Repair" Word File, which I've received as reply on my question about bent handle of one of Spydercards arrived to me some time ago. No word except that file. Looks like kind of automatic answering.
