Broken clip

Hello there

I received a clip for free few days ago as my old Afck lacked one for many years so i just loctited the screws and mounted to notice it isnt flush with the scale and emits a vibrating noise when drawn or when you tap on the clip, so i take it off and try to bend it lightly using my fingers ( the way i always did with Spydie's clips to improve clip tension ).
The clip snapped without any kind of flex as if it was not tempered.
Is this expected with BM's clips or is it a dud ? I have only two Benchmade, this Afck and a Resistor while i cant report the same for the original Afck 's clip because i lost it, the Resistor's clip held up fine when i bent it to upgrade the tension.
I'm not whining at all here because in fact i only needed the screws and used a spare Spydie clip.

I've read a few people report recently that clips have broken without much being done to them. My guess is that they may have had a small batch that were duds as their clips tend to normally be pretty beefy. I am not sure how it would work in your location, but in the States Benchmade is totally awesome with clips. They gladly send them out for free (i.e.: they not only give the clip for free, but they even pay the shipping, which is not very common) in whatever style or finish you want, and will send more than one in many cases.

It may be worth giving them a call to see what they can do for you. They also started making a new low-rider clip not too long ago, which would probably work really well on both knives you have.

The clip you received was probably defective, and although there have been reports of it happening it is not very common. Have them send you another replacement. Benchmade will also include new mounting screws for free with the replacement clip. I have adjusted the tension on a few clips by bending slowly, and not overextending without any breakage. Call Benchmade (800) 800-7427, 8:30-5:00 PST for a replacement, emails don't seem to receive much attention by them and can take a while to be answered.

Thanks for the advices, in fact i didnt explained that this was a free clip that BM sent me, i contacted them by email and it took maybe a week to get an answer telling the clip will be shipped within two weeks and it did which is quite nice considering where i live.

The replacement clip I received a little while back snapped doing the exact same thing. I was surprised honestly, guess next time I will try to heat it first...

I wouldn't be too worried. I've bent their clips for the better part of the decade without issue. I think one of their batches just happened to have a heat treatment that wasn't 100% spot on like they normally do with HTing their steel. Once whatever was in that batch disappears, I imagine things will go back to their norm of being strong clips and this wont be an issue down the road.
