HELP !!!!! :( :o :o :D

I messed up the other day and cracked my glass platen, been using it fine till just a few days ago and a piece chipped out,now I cannot grind on it worth a flip.My question is how do I remove the rest of the platen that is still stuck on very well and also how do I remove any glue residue or small pieces of glass that may stick to the steel before I add a new piec that is waiting to take the cracked ones place:confused: :o

cost of glass for platen isnt the problem,it is getting the glass off my old steel platen that I glued the glass on,the torch will work.

Hey Bruce, Why not make another platen if you have the steel and I'm sure you do. Ran into a situation the other day and solved it by making a 1" wide platen and just split an old belt. I may even make one that is a 1/2" wide.

I just recently took mine off with a heat gun. A sharp 2" wood chisel scraped it clean in a jiffy.

I chipped my platten, so I just filled the chip in with JB Weld, sanded it smooth, and I'm still using it.

Instead of applying the glass directly to my adjustable platen, I took a piece of mild steel bar stock cut to the same size as the platen, drilled and tapped two holes in it for bolts, JB Welded the glass to the bar and stuck the bolts in the threaded holes (so the JB Weld would act like threadlock for it). Then I waited for the JB Weld to dry, cut off the bolt heads, and drilled matching holes in the original platen that lined up with the bolts on the bar/glass plate. I just use wingnuts to hold it in place. This allows me to swap different platen materials on without screwing up the actual platen!
In fact, I just dropped my glass one and now I have to make a new one.

I've been using the double sided 3M exterior mounting tape. The stuff is phenominal! I broke a platen last year and just scraped the busted one off. Put on new tape and new platen and it's been great. No JB Weld to wait on, no muss no fuss. Easy to replace.
What else can you ask for?
