So I dropped my Case trapper today onto a rock and wouldn't you know it, the jigged bone broke. I'm thinking of making new scales for it my self. Where can i get new bolsters. OR also, how about recomendations of someone I could send it off to for some new scales? I would really like to do it my self, but i'm living out of hotel rooms these days so time makes it tougher. Thanks for any advice. Mark.

Unless the knife has sentimental value, I'd just buy a new (or used) one given what replacing the scale(s) would cost.

It's my favorite knife, but nothing sentimental to it. I'm sure i'll just end up doing it myself.

Howdy,
Hypothetically speaking, if you were to google up the phrase "knife supply", you might find a list of outfits that sell parts for knives. They sell scale materials. But, you'd have to shape them yourself.

You might ask over on the maintenance forum or the makers forum if someone would be interested in making new scales for the knife.

But the least expensive option is probably going to involve buying a new knife. Nice thing about Case knives. The standard models are not very expensive and the Trapper is a standard model.

I'd at least ask Case what they might do; nothing to lose by asking. Be very specific about what you want done. They might charge a fee, but it may not be as expensive as you'd think. If they have materials for it, it could save you a lot of work, for relatively little money and hassle. Especially if you're just looking for bone scale replacement, and not needing a perfect restoration of the original. That might give them the leeway they need, to find suitable materials and do a repair.

Yea, i'm going to. It's a good excuse to get another knife, but this one works just fine, it's just got a broken scale.
