Someone asked me the other day to post a pic of the bowie I snapped in 5-6 whacks.

At the top you will see my Kukri
Second is the KA-BAR large bowie
Last is a cheap no name "survival" knife. Its primarily used for junk work.

The reason I have all three shown is that the kukri and cheap knife both able to baton through the exact same log as the one that the bowie was spine deep in and snapped in two while doing some light baton work.

you can't chop through the same log twice :)

did you hit a knot?

I received a full refund through the seller. That busted bowie was a reason I found BladeForums and the Becker thread. I wanted to learn more about the knives to see if mine was a one off problem or a manufacturer weakness. I have been primarily an OKC and Mora guy. But coming here and seeing you guys having a constant circle jerk over the Becker series, I decided to buy the BK2. Now I know that my bowie was just a freak piece of steel and not a piss poor company. Ethan should thank you all for bringing a customer back into the fold. ha ha

hey bush,

things like this can happen to any knife really, especially production knives.. if the heat treat guy is having a bad day and forgets something etc a knife can suffer weakness...

I too had a problem about a hundred years ago with kabar, but I've licked my wounds clean about a year ago. and I now like Becker's even though they're made by kabar :D

You are correct. I love my BK2 so much (even though I have had limited use since getting this damned finger infection) that it has replaced my previous knife on my hip. Although I keep the other one in my pack.

I think I would chalk that break up to a defect in that particular knife. It just looks like a really odd break (totally curved and completely smooth fracture line). Out of the thousands of these that have surely been made, this is only the second time I've read of one breaking, and the other was basically broken on purpose for a video (I think we all know which one I'm referring to). I've had mine since they came out, and it's still going strong! It has become one of my favorites that I've ever owned.

I've had a blast beating the absolute hell out of mine. So far it's Heavy Bowie - 735, Wood - 0.

Welcome to the circle...

BushOrge, thanks for sharing this with us. I'm glad you gave Kabar another chance. They make good knives and stand behind them.

By the way, I've had my Heavy Bowie since 2007 and it's been great. Currently it sees more use in the kitchen, but when I first got it, I took it camping a few times and put it through some heavy chopping and it's done fine. Got it mainly to be a loaner so that I wouldn't have to share my BK9 on trips, but with kitchen duty, it see's more use then the BK9.

Interesting. I've seen a few broken Ka-Bar Bowies, but I think this is the first (that I've seen anyway) that broke dead center like that. Most of them usually break at the weaker point where the tang meets the handle.
