Hey there. Just got me a Mini Grip 556 yesterday. I am quickly falling in love with it ;)

I was just wondering if anyone has broken a Griptilian or made the axis lock fail?

I have had mine for about a year now and use it mostly at work (mechanic). I have put this poor thing through hell and have not damaged it in the least.

It really needs to be cleaned every couple of days or so, the axis lock collects dirt and debris easily.

I'm still trying though:D

That's not my experience. Some lint may form if you're not using a clip, but it blows out easily and has never in my experience caused problems with the axis lock itself.

I tighten the pivot a bit stronger than factory (but it still flicks open) and in a bored mood i gave that 550 some bad spinewhacks that didn´t impressed the lock as far as i could see.

Enjoy!

A 556 has been my EDC for about two years now. No lock failure, and still no play when open. It gets used several times a day for opening boxes to minor brush trimming and weed cutting around the yard to whatever a day of fishing happens to throw at it.

Keep an eye on the clip screws. They seem to work loose on mine but I did switch 'em to a LH carry.

I've had a hard time buying new folders because I know the 556 will still be the EDC. Pretty sad huh? :p

I always remove the clip from every knife I buy and put blue loctite on the clip screws and refasten the clip.

As far as the 556 goes I don't think you'll ever have a problem.

I know of people that have used theirs daily in really harsh construction and never cleaned it and the thing works awesome still.

I have a buddy who only cleans his with warm water every now and then and puts a drop of oil in the pivot and just keeps beating on it. He has used it daily for 2 years now.

So nobody has broken one??

Great, that means I'll never have to spend money on a folder ever again.....who am I kidding!!!! I think I'll get myself a spydie next.

Thanks for the answers guys.

Well, I broke an omega spring on the lock of my first one. I didn't send it off to Benchmade right away and the lock did fail on me once with only one functioning omega spring. Since I had the omega spring replaced I haven't had any other problems with it.
