Broken muti tools

No pics but a couple of years ago, I snapped a 3/4 inch piece off the end of the pliers on a Leatherman Core. Was straightening a fence stay and it snapped loudly under very little pressure. The Core was about 4 years old and hardly used!

Leatherman replaced it under it's 25 year warranty but I bought a Vic Swiss Tool after that as a bkup.

No pics, but my Leatherman Core has developed quite a bit of pliers play or wobble after seven years of use (2-3mm). It was as tight as a Swiss clock when it was new. They are still functional pliers, but just not precision like they were the first few years. Is it I'm too picky, or is this a Warranty issue at this point??? What do you Core owners have to say?? Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm still looking, I know i have it here somewhere still.
I had a ps4 squirt I broke the pliers on pulling a body clip out of my grill so I could take it off of my truck in order to change the headlight assembly. Grabbed onto it and right when I put any kind of pressure on it *snap* and then :c I tried a gerber dime after that and was horribly disappointment and haven't carried a keychain multi tool since except for SAK classics. I've found other ways to deal without pliers. Though they are really handy.

Skeletool fail. As I recall I was trying to bend a wire, the first and only task I attempted before it broke.

Doland, Its pretty normal for leathermans to loosen up over time. some guys prefer it (my dads old PSTs and my Pulse got balisong loose and fast, real one hand deployment!) The upside is that leathermans don't tend to gall up and tighten, like some of the old gerbers did. I would take a picture of the deflection and send it to Leatherman to see what they say, but they have built a reputation around supporting their product, and they may very well replace it for you.

I've seen plenty of busted multitools, its a thing that happens. The main thing that breaks pliers in general is twisting, but since its what people do with pliers most of the time, it stands to reason that lots of pliers get broken. there is a good reason why line-mans pliers are shaped the way they are.

I had a SOG Powerassist plier head fracture the first time I used it. They sent me a new one and a free sharpener, so no hard feelings.

Ha ha, love the thread. Just broke my third Skeletool last week - pliers everytime. Gotta love that warranty!!

I've broken the pliers on a couple of Surge's. Can't remember exactly what I was doing. I think trying to restore a fan shroud to its original shape. Broke the tips on both knives also trying to make a hole in a plenum that the awl wouldn't reach. Put some pretty rough gashes on the awl's also trying to ream various things on the job.

I have had 4 of the so called "Super Tool Leathermans" and all 4 have let me down in one way or another ~~ but my Gerber Tool is like a Timex Watch -- it just keeps on ticking.! No there is no way in the future that I see another Leatherbroke come into my House again.!** Seems like I would have learned after 2..!! Kinda hard to teach an old Dog new tricks though I guess.**

OTOH, my Leatherman Super Tool (original) had 9 years of moderate to hard use and looks it, but no breakage, bendage or fail ever, even when used as a hammer. Likewise its successor, a Charge TTi. These days I have an ST 300, haven't had it long enough or used it hard enough to really test it out, but so far, so good. It never fails to amaze me the totally opposite experiences people have with Leathermans. Either I have been very lucky or you other guys have been very not.

My orig Super Tool is great but the Core had to be a bad casting or something because it failed catastrophically with very slight pressure. The replacement Core seems to be fine but as I said above, I now have a a nice heavy Swisstool to back it up.

I tried the can opener of a Gerber Multiplier to open a spent spray can of oil. The can opener broke - my fault but Gerber sent me a new can opener blade. Right on, Gerber;)
