Still waiting for the "comprehensive explanation to the cause of the break within the next few days." That was 17 January.

What's the story Jerry?

read the locked thread. it is clearly stated there. this is beating a dead horse.

No, sorry. It's not beating a dead horse. I'm not talking about warrantee issues which degraded the last thread.

Jerry said he'd give a ""comprehensive explanation to the cause of the break within the next few days."

Where is it? What happened to the blade? What caused the break?

I don't see why people are so shocked by a broken Busse knife. Any knife can break period, yes there are certain companies that don't break as often but doesn't mean it doesn't still happen.

I don't recall anyone every saying that a Busse can not be broken so why is it such a shock when it happens. Far to many people underestimate stupidity.

Sorry double post.

Yes, any knife can break. But we have a statement from the manufacturer that he'd explain the cause of failure of one of his nuclear tough knives. That broke.

I'm only asking for the explanation that was offered by Jerry Busse.

I was wondering the same thing, then I went out and beat the hell out of my Busses on some dry scrub oak...

Whatever the technical reason is, who cares. Not everything can be 100% explained, could have been a fly landed on it while it was hot or some crazy 1 in a million thing like that. But, I know for a fact that 100% of mine haven't broken when they should have, I'm not left handed and in the process of training my left arm I've had a few nasty, glancing hits and even hit rock.

Where's that pic of Dave bending the AK??? Jesus H. Christ, just thinking about that makes me nervous...

Trust me, or ask any employer I've ever had, I'm hard on equipment, to say the least. I had never used a full crayon until I was old enough to control my grip and that's a metaphor for just about anything I've ever handled.

AAAAAHHHHH!!!!! I'm two steps away from being Lenny!

Is this really the place for it? Might try email first

Tickling the gorilla in the monkey cage is always interesting. Where is my popcorn.

It looks like you're trying to stir the pot rather than asking the folks from Busse politely for answers given your choice of words in this thread and the locked one. It was explained clearly there. Drop it.

Are you kidding? Is this really bothering you? I think Jerry said that the amateur job done to remove the finish might have ruined the heat treat. Therefore ruining the hardness. I'm not totally positive but I don't think Jerry can time travel and go there in person at the time of the breakage. Do we know for a fact that the owner of the blade didn't stick it in a tree then jump on the handle to show his friends how tough infi is? I don't think we will ever have an answer for what ACTUALLY happened but being that people still have their panties in a bunch about a knife that broke 1 year ago, I'm glad to be a Busse owner. Take that Cold Steel.

From the earlier conversation, it sounded like the knife had been heated enough during the sanding/buff?polish process to essentially increase the surface hardness to 64 rc. Effectively case hardening it and causing unreleaved stress in the steel. This is always a risk with high localized heat in an air hardening steel. Especially surface heat, where the heat distibution is not uniform.

Good grief.
He has already said the heat treat was affected from the modding, yet he still upheld the warranty.
If you want to know what the owner was doing with the knife you need to ask him, and not us.

rtiger2, if the explanation on the other thread is not enough for you, then try emailing or calling Jerry instead. There's no need to be calling him out on his forum at the end of a work week when he and his crew are with their families and enjoying a well deserved break.

I'm locking this thread.
