I have had 2 multi tools pliers break on me, one by shrade and one knock off, I am wondering before I invest more cash in a multitool if this is an isolated problem (I have a grip stength that exceeds 400 psi) or if there is a brand or type with a more rugged set of pliers

I broke one Leatherman a decade+ ago.
Sent it back and they sent me a new one, it's still going strong.

Think you may need to pony up some more cash if you're going to really use them.

Buy the best you can afford and only cry once.

Personally I think you need either (In no particular order)

and perhaps

As noted before, IF you manage to break anything these companies will do their best to see you get a new one as fast as they can. Check out a thread on Customer Service, some of these firms are outstanding.

the swiss tool and leatherman super tool are both supposed to be very heavy duty and strong. If worst comes to worst and you use your pliers soo much with excessive force, just use a pair of pliers instead of a multi tool.

you're better off with a craftsman multitool, IMO. Break it, get another one.

I'd rather have something I can count on and Leatherman will replace anything of theirs that breaks for 25 years...

Who makes the Craftsman one?

i know gerber has a lifetime warrenty as well, most multitools that are made by reputable companies seem to have very good warrenties.

I'm not saying that I'd stake my life on a Craftsman multitool. But what I'm trying to point out is that the sheer abundance of Sears stores makes it practical to replace an oft-broken tool rather than waiting for days on end without the tool that you rely upon when you had it shipped away to be replaced, repaired or whatnot.

Leatherman has significantly beefed up their pliers on all the new models. (charge, new wave etc)
