indeed... so here's an update.
i dug through my receipts, and found i had purchased this phone (w/ plan) around 15jan2006. so my phone is just shy of a year old.
then i went to cingular's site, logged into my account, and clicked the returns/customer service button. i went through a short, step-by-step process requiring my cell phone's serial number, my info, etc. etc., and requested cingular's replacement policy.
more or less, it's like this. if my phone is defective and within the terms of the replacement policy agreement, (no water damage, not abused, etc etc.) i am eligable to take advantage of the replacement policy plan. they are shipping me a new phone + paperwork to replace my old one, and in return, i send my old phone back in the provided packaging. seems simple enough. shipping/handling via ground was free, with the option of expedited shipping.
the catch is this. if my old phone gets back to cingular and they deem it to be a breach of the warranty (excess damage, water damage, etc.) they charge 115.00 directly to my cingular account. so... i dunno how stingy the guys in the motorola warranty department are, but i'll keep you all filled in?
so far, at least, i can give cingular a thumbs UP for their service as i've experienced. going to their site and running through the step-by-step process wasn't time consuming, and it was simple. cingular is making it easy and convenient for me to get a replacement phone, which i appreciate.
in the past, involving an older nokia phone (using cingular), i've experienced good customer service regarding replacement cell phone issues.
but we'll see. hopefully, i won't find a magic 115.00 charge on my account, cause i've been pretty easy on this phone.
thanks for your help guys, i'll let you know how it turns out.
