Hi All

My first post here...

I was pointed over here from the British Blades forum, with a query from a friend of mine, regarding an old penknife inherited from his father.

He doesn't think the knife is valuable, but it has sentimental value, as it was his father's.

The plate on the LH scale is a picture of a powder horn, with the "Frontier" underneath.

This motif is repeated on the LHS of the ricasso of the main blade (the broken one). The other side of the ricasso is marked "Imperial" and "4431".

Is it possible to replace a broken blade on an old folder?
Is it worth doing? :thumbup::thumbdn:?

Very warm welcome to the site CaptainBeaky. I am sure the blade can be replaced. Whether it is worth doing or not can only be decided by your friend. Please let us know what develops.

Yes, the blade can be replaced. It may take a bit of time to locate the correct donor knife, but if yours has enough sentimental value, a bit of time to locate the right blade and do the repair shouldn't be a problem. It would be cheaper to buy a better example than do the repair, but it wouldn't be the same knife. Email me through my profile (click on my name above) and I will put you in touch with a man who can do the work for you if no one here steps forward.
